How to Keep Your Juices Fresh During Rainy Days

Rainy season got you down? Don’t worry; all you need is a dose of motivation from this article and some nuskhas to help you stay hydrated – the right way! Let’s dive in and find out how we can keep ourselves nutritionally fulfilled in this monsoon.

We all love a good, refreshing drink after a long day of pouring rain spoils our plans (but blesses our minds with peace!). The go-to baarish ke mausam wali drink is obviously a masala chai, or even a filter kaapi… but at a time when it’s important to be mindful of what you eat and how you eat (or drink) it, it’s also important to have a health-conscious baarish ke mausam wali drink, right?

So, in this article, let’s explore how to enjoy a healthy drink in the rainy season, and more importantly, how to make sure it stays healthy, even a few days after you make it!

The drinks we’ll be talking about are veggie juices; colourful combinations of delicious (and sometimes, just nutritious, not tasty) vegetables mixed together to create a super healthy drink.

Something is Better Than Nothing – Store your Nutrition

First things first, how long can you store a juice for, before it becomes spoiled and loses all of its nutritional value? Well, that depends completely on your schedule! Let’s see how.

  1. Preparing fresh: Use fresh veggies to enhance the storability of the juice and consume it immediately, if possible.
  2. Preparing right:
  3. Make sure that your juicer and storage container are thoroughly sterilised before you use them. Also ensure that your bottle is airtight.
  4. Don’t strain the fibre out of the juice; just store the whole thing in an airtight bottle. Whenever you feel like having it, fill half of your glass with the fibre-rich juice and pour water until your glass is full.
  5. Mixing your concoction with water on a daily basis will help balance out the heavy consistency of your fibre-rich mixture. Moreover, straining the mixture reduces the quantity and also improves the consistency of the juice. If you don’t like too much fibre you can even mix lesser of the juice with more water, before drinking it.
  6. Remember that the juice should not be too watery either; the importance of the juice lies in the fibre itself. A watery juice has lesser benefits and is not recommended; if you strain out the fibre, the juice will be too liquid-y and lesser in quantity, so you’ll have to make it everyday which is honestly just a waste of time.
  7. Storing the freshness: Depending on how busy your daily schedule is, you can choose any of the following ways to store your fresh juice:
  8. If you have a moderately busy schedule, you can store the freshly prepared juice for 1-2 days after making it. This helps you get the maximum possible nutrition from your refreshing juices, especially if you have a slightly busy schedule and don’t have the time to juice veggies on a daily basis.

This way, you won’t have to bring out your juicer everyday but you will still be able to enjoy the goodness of vegetables.

  • If you don’t have the time to juice every 2 days, you can also juice the veggies twice a week and store the remaining portion in the refrigerator for a maximum of 3-4 days.
  • Don’t forget to refrigerate your juice properly! It’s very easy for the juice to be spoiled in humid weather, which is the last thing we want. Pro tip: fill your ice tray with the veggie juice and store it in the freezer. But don’t leave the tray uncovered as that could compromise the taste and nutrition of the cubes.

These veggie cubes are fun (obviously), and also preserve the nutrition of the veggies for up to 7 days!

  • If you’re storing the juice in the refrigerator, make sure to consume it within 3-4 days of preparing it.
  • Try spicing up your regular veggie juices with a twist of lemon, ginger, and amla. They will also help you store your nutrition dose for longer since all of these are natural preservatives. You can also top your juice off with some pepper sprinkled at the top, for a little bit of a twist and also for its preservative properties.
  • Juices made of leafy vegetables have to be consumed within one day of preparing them to get the most of their goodness. Plus, they get spoiled after that and are of no benefit to you.

Adding to the Nutrition

You know what’s even better? Our bodies love working with organic nutrition! So, when you’re treating your body to a daily dose of immunity boosters, why not throw in a little bit of movement too?

And what better way to move during the rainy season than by joining some online yoga classes in Chennai (if you’re a Chennai resident, of course!) and if you’re a resident of any other part of the country, you can simply look up “online yoga from India” and put your energy into a healthy habit.
